thesundaymail.news.com.au — Workers in India are having nervous breakdowns after being abused by fed-up Australians – but they aren't getting much sympathy. Quote: "Some companies are regretting outsourcing their business to India because of the damage it does to their products' reputation." Finally!

"We're stressing Indian call centers."That's so rich!Telemarketers used to piss me off. Now I f**k with them and it's so much more fun! I lead them on making them think I'm interested in their stupid product and then think up some intractable problem with it which they try to resolve for me.There are a couple of things I've thought about trying with them but never got around to it, such as turning their questions back at them and developing a telephone relationship with them (they never call me back unfortunately).

Sorry, but I think that any people who work in the service industry have to deal with extremely rude people all the time. I would not treat any person the way that some people treat food service workers or customer service workers...really, they ARE human, and if you wouldn't treat your mother that way, then you shouldn't treat them that way either. Everyone is so rude now...we should all take some lessons in civility.

Back when I had a land-line that didn't have Caller ID, I would answer the phone and get trapped into a conversation. There was one moment where I had a telemarketing epiphany - I pulled the phone away from my head, heard the tinny little voice coming out of the earpiece and put the phone back in its cradle. I realized I didn't want to talk to them and all I had to do was put the headset back into it's cradle and I would get exactly what I wanted. Now I have a cellphone as my only telephone line and that has complimentary Caller ID. I just see if it's a number in my phone's phonebook and if not, I press the volume button once, which mutes the ring and I close the clamshell.Easy.

Just recently there was a news of racial abuse of south african cricketers by australians. Even the australian cricket captain ricky ponting had condemned the incident. While Iam not saying that a certain community is a "notoriously racist community", Racism is also a factor which leads to verbal abuse of Indians. Some people hold this prejudice in their minds even without realising it.

I respect telemarketers; it's a job, and having a job is better than not having one, it pays better than working at the grocery store, and it's a tough job to do. My previous girlfriend had a couple telemarketing jobs. But when I say I respect telemarketers, I'm talking about native-English-speaking people... People who can barely speak the language are far more irritating.

I know, jumping in late but with this article now 3 years old - we are still seeing more and more outsourcing overseas. Does the quality equal the savings in hiring "cheaper" labour? Really an interesting question. Can't tar all call centre operators with the same brush however - I have spoken with terrible ones based in numerous countries!
