+18 diggs?? It was the MAYANs expected 2012. Also, that "Spanish Inquisition" joke never really made sense to me, the Spanish Inquisition tortured thousands, how anyone could anyone laugh when they hear mention of the Spanish Inquisition? For all you know, it could have been one of your ancestors who was yanked from their loving family and was forced into confessing that they made a deal with the devil after their thumbs were twisted off....
A better hypothesis is that the US did a much more efficient job by killing off the indigines and importing slaves, as opposed to enslaving the indigines.
Human sacrifice meant different things to different people. People who were sacrificed in Incan culture were willing to do so and it was considered a high honor. They certainly weren't like the Aztecs who had a blood fetish and sacrificed tens of thousands of unwilling participants at a time.

As Cortes said, 'we have a sickness of the soul and the only way it can be healed is with gold.'

The Spanish just had swords, period. Steel and horses were completely unknown to the Inca, which explains the slaughter.
