infoworld.com — AC BidCo LLC won a U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) auction earlier this year for 3MHz of radio spectrum to be used for in-flight communications services. The company's affiliate, AirCell Inc., said Wednesday its offer of Wi-Fi hotspots and other services on airliners should get off the ground commercially in early 2008.

Yes, and I was overjoyed at its demise. I can really do without the skype-using blowhard gasbag sitting next to me from LA to NYC. Hope this falls flat on its face too.

Wouldn't it solve a lot of problems if they just proved ethernet sockets? Cuts out all the RF-interference fun.. Not quite as convienent, but it's better than nothing.. or the plane crashing...- Ben

Once they asked me to put away my notebook because it appeared to be causing trouble. I didn't even have wifi on. You may say WTF, so did I.Also, the exploding batteries may lead to disallowing laptops completely, or like you said, just not allowing anyone to fly! :-P
