The 120mm fans are able to push more air while spinning at slower speeds than 80mm fans. I think the speed at which the fans spin is a major factor for the amount of noise they generate.

yeah, if you have the raise the speed level of fans for gaming, but game with headphones or pump up the volume for fun, you won't notice the fan noise, as much. speedfan, ftw!

yep, no pc i build for myself is anywhere near silent. its like, spend more money, to get less out of your system... i would rather have higher clocks than less noise, and plus i don't like silence anyways, i leave the tv on just so I will have background noise.

Stopping a fan for a few seconds isn't going to hurt. Temperature changes take time.
