The real story isn't the 181 Miners that died in this one incident, the real story is:"The coal industry is a particular challenge. Coal feeds most of China?s energy needs, and accidents kill an average of 13 miners a day."In just their coal mining industry! Damn.

They do it because it offers the only jobs in a lot of impoverished areas. They do it because the educational requirements are not very high, and because it's what daddy, and granddaddy, and great granddaddy did. They do it because the money isn't bad, compared to getting nothing. They do it because of the pride, because they're doing a job that not only other people don't want to do, but are afraid to do. I can't explain it any better than that.

It's quite simple actually. In a capitalist society, businesses exist for the sole purpose to make money. Headlines about "the genocide of hundreds of thousands (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) in dafur" are less profitable than headlines about Paris Hilton.

No you don't. News is nothing more than entertainment for most folks. Tell me, exactly what have you done to help them since you "care" so much? Have you sent in aid money? Have you gone over there to try something? Or has your caring been nothing more than "that's sad" or "I hope they are ok"? You know, telepathy and well wishes really don't do anything.
