washingtonpost.com — Birthers, anti-tax tea-partiers, town hall hecklers; these are "either" the genuine grass roots or evil conspirators staging scenes? If you don't understand that any moment of genuine political change always produces both, you can't understand America, where the crazy tree blooms in every moment of liberal ascendancy & elites exploit the crazy

Didn't notice that thecoolestguy was referring to nicegeek's comments. My argument still stands, though.

I think it's as rational as carrying signs. He is making an argument for freedom "It is my constitutional right as an American to carry a gun, to carry it is to publicly show my appreciation for the rights given to me by the founding fathers." Now, you may not agree with this argument, but it is a perfectly rational one.We shouldn't immediately assume he was trying to intimidate people through violence just because he had a gun with him. (Although that might have been his purpose, I don't know.) "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time by the blood of tyrants and patriots." Is not a call to go ahead and kill people you don't agree with. It is a reminder that freedom is in our hands, and if we just sit around the couch watching TV, it is not going to happen. It is something you have to constantly fight for.He might be crazy, but his actions do not necessarily support that statement. That said, I'm completely in favor of universal health-care, medicare and social security. But I can also appreciate the arguments of the other side of the debate. (The sane arguments, not the Death-Panels ones).

@zeusWhen did I do that? He said "f**k war. Being anti-war isn't extreme"He didn't say anything about a specific war, and I'm questioning his stance that any armed conflict is wrong. On the contrary, I feel that sometimes there are very good reasons to fight.

I urge all of you who support the public option to call your Congressperson and voice your opinion. As this article points out, there will always be a vocal fringe minority of "crazies" who distort the facts when there is change/progress on the horizon in this country. Unfortunately, the media here has become so sensationalized that the crazies now have a megaphone and are given legitimacy. All that we can do to counter the crazy is be equally vocal. Vote-- but don't stop there. Elected officials need to know that sane, rational people are also holding them accountable.

"People shouldn't be baby-sat by government, because it promotes irresponsibility."Again, more ideological BS. According to you, Canadians should be irresponsible because there is more govt. intervention up here, and yet they aren't."You shouldn't try to use an alternate word just because the reality is negative."It's not reality, it's your own negative spin which I am rejecting. Safeguard is a perfectly apt word which adequately describes what it is. "Baby-sitting" primarily refers to the act of caring for a baby in place of the mother. It is *your* use of the term to describe something else than what it is which is incorrect, and used to further your own ideological dogma. It is a intellectually dishonest thing to do, but then again you don't strike me as a particularly honest person, intellectually."The facts overwhelmingly support free markets as the vehicle for rising standard of living."No, they don't. In fact, historically, whenever there has been a truly free market it has led to catastrophe. You're taking your ideology for reality."There is no rational reason to conclude that free markets result in increasing poverty/destitution/etc."There are plenty of empirical evidence they do."The anti-free market meme is the most irrational and unsupported beliefs there is."Your religious belief that free-markets are self-correcting is not grounded in any empirical reality."Yes I bought into reality"Nope. You're living in an ideological utopia. At least I'm a realist, and I can see that the truth is not found in the extremes, but in the middle. You're so far off the Right Libertarian end you have lost all concept of reality. It's kinda sad.

Yes...they are all the same. That is why the healthcare will pass through congress because the "conservatives" (as well has the democrats) really just flaunt the title, and have never done anything to earn it, especially during the Bush years. They are all the same. In it for the money. That's why Obama immediately bailed out his top campaign donors.

I love how you are pretending only conservatives are against the health care plan, and then proceed to call them all "jackasses." That's funny.

So because of your fear it might not work perfectly, 50 million people have to do without. Great solution. s**t works in every other country, why wouldn't it work in yours? In the long run, higher taxes/more government services leads to less goods/services for every one.WHAT A LOAD OF s**t LOL
