In terms of Afghanistan, the US did not drag us into this war. America was attacked, and as a member of NATO, it is our duty to help America in this war. Canada is not protected from the machinations of tyrants by our goodwill or by our own military. The peace we enjoy in Canada is largely because our big brother down south makes sure no one messes with us. I don't think Afghanistan is an unjust war. It may be a hopeless cause, though I hope not. I have thought of a different tactic in the war. As an ex Marine, I would love your opinion on a tactic I proposed on this digg: http://digg.com/world_news/British_commander_says_ ...
It would be nice to build schools and roads in Afghanistan and not fight at all but what is the solution? If we leave, the schools will be razed, and Afghanistan will be embroiled in a civil war that could spread to Pakistan. The Taliban will make women indentured slaves. We can't make nice with fanatics. It's not really our security we are fighting this for. If we leave, we can be safe from the Taliban here by not dealing with Afghanistan at all. We can even stop emigration and travel from there if want to. We can simply allow them to take over and eventually fall on their own sword. It's the people there that need us. Even in Darfur its not about goodwill and aid but protection and to go there, you will have to confront the Sudanese. If you have a plan, please let me know.
