too bad you don't have an opportunity to hear the good stuff. Public Enemy's Fear of a Black Planet was a masterpiece, Follow the Leader had such an awesome flow and a great message...but the stuff you hear now is the worst of the worst parts with none of the good parts.
Alex415 claimed "Even in Africa, long before the transatlantic slave trade begun, slavery went on among the African tribes. Back in those days, if your tribe lost a battle with a neighboring tribe, guess what happened to the women, children, and captives?" and also claimed "The British fought other wars to end the slave trade in Africa, losing plenty of their own."Has Alex415 ever been to Africa ? One wonders if Alex315 realizes what they're talking about or whether this is yet another perpetuation of stereotypical types aimed at attacking Africa and Africans alike. Africa for your information is a very diverse continent with over 52 countries not to mention thousands of ethnic groups. To falsely allege that slavery was widespread and common place amongst Africans stinks of ignorance and it is not comparable to slavery in any terms to slavery as it was brutally practiced in the western hemisphere. Indeed using the same ridiculous analogy, one could argue that the holding of enemy combatants in Gitmo or the holding of Iraqi men and women after the US led invasion in Iraq amounts to modern day slavery. Atleast Africans with the same misguided analogy supposedly kept the family unit intact in times of war.Alex315 needs to educate their self on the brutal history of the British in Africa. The British went to Africa to rob, plunder and steal resources belonging to Africans for the benefit of the crown. In the process they killed and maimed hundreds of thousands if not millions of innocent Africans in the guise of supposedly fighting "terrorists" (sound familiar??) and "barbarians". Alex315 might be well served to take a history lesson and buy the following book written by an American scholar who took the time to expose the atrocities committed by the British in just one country of the many that the British colonized. The British have a dark past and did their best to cover it up. Next time you go touting the role of the British as liberator in Africa...think twice before you make misinformed and obviously biased claims. http://www.amazon.com/Imperial-Reckoning-Untold-Story-Britains/dp/0805080015/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-0685859-7710555?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1176347597&sr=8-1
plant11:Your whole point is terrible. Black people should be happy for slavery? You are not serious are you? Please tell me that you don't mean that at all. I have read some pretty ignorant things on this board, but this is by far the most ignorant. You comment was a bad attempt at humor, correct? Honestly as a Black Man, the media portrays Black People in a bad light all the time. We are not all like what you see on TV. There is nothing to be afraid of when you see us in the street. We are not going to do anything to you. Every race has criminals and drug dealers. Its just the people who don't have any money who get media attention. For instance, look at the War on Drugs. There is more money being made on the war on drugs than actually taking drugs off the streets. But some how the blame is put on black males. Think about what you say before you speak sir.
Meanwhile, so-called "hip-hop artists" can make careers using words like "gentlemen," "bitch," "ho," and worse to describe women who only exist for their pleasure. Is there a double-standard? You can't criticize a black person's disgusting behavior unless you're prepared to be leveled with a charge of "racism." There isn't a standard to hold black folks to. It simply does not exist. There are so many levels to this stupidity. Don Imus has made a career out of saying outrageous things. Nobody got offended because his audience is so tiny that only his fans (those who 'get it') ever heard it. Nobody actually heard Mr. Imus say "nappy-headed ho's" to have been offended, rather this is a media-generated "controversy." The very media that used to cover up all the insults aimed at other people have destroyed this pathetic little man over five syllables. Now, the very people who used to tumble all over themselves in their desire to be guests on Don Imus' program are calling for his head, for the very reason that they used to defend him. The hypocrisy of it all is maddening. I have no love for Don Imus. He is a untalented, small-minded little man. The only reason he existed is because his political views mirrored that of so many in the media and in show business. Now his support has collapsed, all over five syllables. This "controversy" displays the shallowness of everyone in the media, and of those who can be "harmed" by five little syllables. If you can be offended by five syllables, then you are living a pathetic existence.
Where is the apology from Al for his unwarrented racist attack on the Duke Lacrosse players? The silence on that issue is defeaning.Way to go Michelle! You do America a great service by covering the topics that 'real Americans' are afraid to.
You are wrong, Tommy. Imus is on Cable (msnbc) and it is not regulated under the FCC.I don't know about his radio spot. The radio stations play rap music. FCC regulated stations. So, what's your point there?I hate the idea of Government controlled airwaves. Let the market work.
Well, Imus is toast. CBS gave him the ax. Now, let's bring Mr. Sharpton his just consequence. We can all agree that racially insentive, stupid commentary about ordinary citizens like the Rutgers team is completely out of line. Imus, a legendary, if somewhat washed-up, radio icon, was driven to exile for a single sentence. Yet, Sharpton prattles on. He has his little radio show where Imus fatally sought absolution. He struts on O'Reilly, on CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, and CNN as a guest. He is the reigning pontiff of political correctness in racial matters and what are his credentials? Let's look closely:In 1995, Sharpton led his National Action Network in a boycott against a Jewish owned business on 125th St., in Harlem, NYC, saying, "We will not stand by and allow them to move this brother so some white interloper can expand his business on 125th Street..." The subsequent picketing became increasingly violent in tone until one of the protesters eventually shot four whites inside the store and then set the building on fire—killing seven employees, most of whom were Hispanics. In 1991, in the death young Gavin Cato, a young boy tragically killed in a car accident with a Jewish driver and the events that led up to the riots in Crown Heights, NYC, Sharpton poured fuel to an incendiary scenario by challenging local Jews he called "Diamond Merchants" to, "pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house”. The subsequent rage resulted in the murder of rabbinical student Yankel Rosenbaum and three days of horrible rioting. Imus' transgression looking any different by comparison?Way back in 1988, Sharpton, disbarred lawyer C. Vernon Mason, and radical attorney Alton Maddox concocted a hoax about Tawana Brawley, falsely claiming she had beed raped. After a protracted series of lies and obfuscations that stretched to1997, Sharpton was ordered by the court to pay $345,000 for defaming Dutchess County prosecutor Stephen Pagones in the matter. Sharpton has never apologized. "I'm sorry" is always a good start. Maybe Rev. Al can get a slot on Imus' new satellite gig.
Oh, and "deathsquattingpunk", no, DIGG is not a liberal haven--only in your, uh, mind? Nope, no mind showing there. P.S. You show no signs of being a liberal, as your exclusion clause would exclude you from a true liberal group. Buy less dope and spend some money on a dictionary to learn what a liberal actually is as you seem to qualify more as a card carrying leftist--and simply (very) not a classic liberal. Have a nice day.
