There were two other countries taken by the U.S. as a result of the Spanish-American war: Cuba and Puerto Rico.We all know how Cuba eventually turned out, but we're not told why. Fidel came to power, because the rich had no sense of social responsibility. And now there's no balance between giving and taking in that country, thus it's a s**t hole in many respects. The U.S. thrust American citizenship on Puerto Rico's people several years later, just in time to draft its men for World War One. It floods that country with free money, year after year, so that the people will remain complacent and not seek independence. Elements within our government view the island as being militarily strategic, and as an important drug smuggling route, so it's worth looting your tax dollars for it. Our country is run by cynics and exploiters, by men and women of little conscience. Ultimately, it is us the People who pay the price.
