Redesignating a few more small bodies to planet status is purely superficial and I don't see the harm in it. If it helps unify the scientic community's definition of what can now be considered a planet I am all for it. If these new planets meet the criteria why not call them planets?
Wait a minute! Our moon is larger than Pluto! So if Pluto's moon and this asteroid count as planets, shouldn't our moon and arguably many others in the solar system?OK, after typing the above, I realized that the argument for Pluto's moon being a planet has to do with the fact that the two are actually similar in size and have an orbital center that is between them. I suppose that, regardless of the status of the asteroid and the beyond-Pluto planet, we're going to have to concede that Pluto's moon is not its moon but rather its, um, dance partner.Man I'm tired...
What an incredible scientific advance in thought!Just now we are beginning to accept something that would have been considered common knowledge some 7,000 years ago in ancient Sumeria.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marduk_%28planet%29I just find it funny that science is now coming into agreement with an ancient culture claimed there were 12 planets in this solar system (they counted from outside in none the less!

There are other large Kuiper belt candidates.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:2006-16-d-print.jpg

A terrible solution. This will only lead to increased confusion as more and more planet-sized objects will be found in the Kuiper Belt and Oort Cloud.

No matter how many times I look at scaled models of the sun, I am just blown away. The sun is soooo big....
