treehugger.com — Following in the footsteps of schools ranging from Arizona State to Canton College, Illinois State University's Board of Trustees approved a new bachelor's degree program in renewable energy. If given the green light by the state's Board of Higher Education Approval, the program would become the first of its kind in Illinois.

It's awesome to see that there is action in the community. I remember learning about all of this 15 years ago or more in grade school. Way to go ISU. Who is next?

As a sensible environmentalist, I despise hippies when all they do is bash oil companies and Bush and don't say anything about fixing the problem. However, when they actually want to come up with alternatives rather than spew anger and hatred, I applaud. Who wouldn't be for finding alternative fuel sources? If the oil companies were smart, they'd get on this train, too, before the oil runs out; their livelihood depends on it.Go hippies!

Looks like there is enough material to support a full degree program. Granted it isn't going to buy you much for job support. Any large scale renewable energy project is broken up into discipline specific tasks such as chemical engineering, electrical, mechanical etc. The best case I can see for this degree in the real world is management, and even that doesn't make too much sense since management positions are generally taken by people who have had practical work experience. Unless the major corporations create a new job title, I can't really see many people getting in the door to begin with.

Pub Deuce is the place to go at ISU. Fat Jacks is overrated and expensive.

Bloomington-Normal is going to be surrounded by wind farms before they're through. Lots of wind around here as you are well aware.

Brewha's is good for darts, and the beer specials. Pub II gets packed and is full of the frat boys. And Maggie's is damn expensive, although the beer selection is prime!

I will have to look into this program since I am a student there. If anyone reading this is a student at University of Illinois and has looked into this then hit me up on http://www.myuofi.com

Good for them! I hope my university offers this program soon. I decided to go to a Christian college and it was the best decision I ever made. If you're interested check out http://www.liberty.edu.
