guardian.co.uk— Illegal drugs can be "harmless" and should no longer be "demonised", a wide-ranging two-year study concluded today.

"IF YOU THINK ITS BAD NOW, JUST WAIT TILL THEY LEGALIZE THIS STUFF."The classic line...The things that are bad about drugs now are a product of them being illegal. They are sold at black market prices, and any disputes aren't going to be resolved by the commerce commission as it is not a legitimate occupation. You think addicts break into your houses and steal your TVs and stereos and laptops because they want new toys? No, they need money to pay for the %1000 profit margins that criminal networks set. Addicts are marginalised by society and our laws do not help them one bit.
There's nothing "harmless" about an illegal drug...the very fact that it's illegal causes more harm than the drug itself.(Man-made drugs are the worse...and an entirely different subject)Noted exceptions: Cocaine (and it's derivatives)Opium (and it's derivatives)
"I think I heard (might have been about some other opiate) that somebody could use heroin every day of their life, be addicted, and not really have any health issues."Unfortunately for most addicts, they are taken advantage of by criminal dealers out for profit. Were the substances legal, and there was effective competition in the retail market, addicts would still be able to afford to eat, own a home etc instead of paying for their dealers chrome wheels and jacuzzi's.
"So heroine, methamphetamine, and cocaine are harmless. Good to know."@bynatgirl - their illegal classification makes them FAR more harmful than otherwise. Now I completely agree with you on methamphetamine as it has just about zero legitimate medical uses.Cocaine really no longer has much medicinal use as its use as a local anaesthetic as there are better drugs around now for that, but here in NYC it's used like crazy and _most_ people don't end up having big problems as a result of it, just like _most_ drinkers don't become full-fledged alcoholics. Besides it's so widely available that it may as well be legal anyway.Heroin (without the 'e', btw) should absolutely be made legal as its medicinal uses are _very_ clear and documented. Diamorophine is really an improvement upon morphine by all measures (less euphoria, less nausea, less itching, smaller barrel, faster acting) and is prescribedthe world over for legitimate pain relief. Even for the street user, heroin becomes thousands of times MORE dangerous as a result of this powerful drug being turned over to criminals for manufacture and distribution. Most people that die on account of 'heroin' overdose are actually killed by the adulterants commonly found in it -- quanine, fentanyl, rat poison ... etcSo here's for research.
I wonder why someone with an Apple for an avatar is in favour of legalizing LSD.I'm going to guess that in another thread you've been in favour of legalizing backdated stock options.

You're just as bad as the people who want to keep pot illegal.

This is a joke. Lets take a trip to the morgue, hospitals, and rehab centers and see what drugs to do people.

Five'll get you ten that these people still think smoking cigarettes is the most demonic thing you can do in the entire universe.
