dmiessler.com — I am a (male) high school teacher and I have a daughter. If I see a child or (worse) a pre-teen crying on the beach I change my direction and put as much distance as possible between us. It?s too dangerous even to take a picture, imagine TOUCHING them

in my city, a kid hasn't gone missing in a long time. even still, my wife fights with me about letting our son walk to his elementary school which is only like 3/4's of a mile away. on a bike, he'd be there faster than if we drove him to school. someone has convinced her that our kid will be snatched if he's left to ride his bike to school. maybe i'm country or old fashioned, but the bus was never an option to me. As a kid in NY, she rode the city bus all by herself to school. i don't quite understand where the disconnect is.

And that's the sad part. Unless he did serious permanent damage or killed her, it LITERALLY would have been less trouble overall.

It's not like to have to hold the kids hand. I'm baffled that you people don't have the courage to make sure a kid doesn't get kidnapped. I'd rather take the risk of being called a pervert than watch the news of see a photo of the kid on a missing persons report, knowing that I could have helped.

If they would start frying the sons of bitches who are real sexual predators for the first offense we wouldn't have to worry about such silliness. Because of my past multifaceted sex life, and the reputation it earned me, I started distancing myself from children years ago. It just isn't worth the risk of being called a pedophile for treating a child like a legitimate human presence.

This is so sad, but it is a symptom of our times. I had one parent (father) who's a friend become upset with me because I grabbed his 4 y.o. son's arm to keep him from hurting himself when his father was three feet from us. I understand this paranoia about pedophiles because there are too many of these predators out there, but an adult touching a child is not automatically bad. It would be far better for society to make actual abduction / sexual assault a capital offense and not penalize non-parental adults for interceding to protect children.
