biznik.com — Dear Mr. Architect: Please design and build me a house. I am not quite sure of what I need, so you should use your discretion. My house should have somewhere between two and forty-five bedrooms. Just make sure the plans are such that the bedrooms can be easily added or deleted...

Very funny post! But you could make very similar remarks about any profession, bar none. Every job has the parts about it which make it a challenge. I'm sure an architect could make their job seem incredibly difficult also if they brought up the intricacies of *ACTUALLY* designing a quality building, things that would never enter the mind of a non-architect. That's how occupations work, someone else cares about the implementation so the user/buyer doesn't have to. Web development is no different, except for the fact that computer software has a certain mystique (ie "black magic") about it that outsiders truly will never care or know about, unlike architecture which deals with concrete tangible deliverables, that even Johnny Redneck can see and understand.

Eh. I don't know much about architecture, but it's intended more as a way of explaining to people who aren't in the field what web designers go through. In that, it has succeeded.

What about Web 3.0? Can we try that out?

Apples and oranges. When an architect screws up, people can die. When a web designer screws up, people just go away.

Ya know, the new system cleans up the page, and it really isn't hard to click the link that says "3 replies"... and they open up with the same functionality of the old system, but now I can read your post as I reply to it because I'm not sent to the bottom of the page anymore. NICE!!. I caught your sarcasm, but I've criticized the new system before and I'm sorry. It is great! Thanks digg for listening to us when we complained about the old system!

this is why your advisor got that little worry wrinkle when you said "web design" and suggested a business minor.

What do architects use other than time and CAD? They don't build it. They just doodle it and hand it to the construction worker.
