My beef with real estate ownership is this: the first owners to lay claim to the property didn't pay anyone for it: Inheritance by being in the right place at the right time, and considering the price these days that was a HUGE inheritance to someone who did no work other than to ride out and put a stake in the ground.

Unfortunately, it seems like most people in the US think that as long as they can stream clips of whatever the latest garbage on TV was to their phone for some ridiculous extra charge, life couldn't get any better.
