etaiwannews.com — Nobody wants to mention tax rises just ahead of the elections," said Thorolfur Matthiasson, an economics professor at the University of Iceland. "But if the budget deficit is 10 percent of GDP and the official debt is approximately what the nation can produce in one year, then the politicians will have to raise tax and reduce public spending.

If and when our politicians cut spending, you can safely bet it will be cuts in the wrong areas - social programs which the US government has no business whatsoever in will be the absolute last to go. EPA, NEA, FDA, HUD will never be touched. Politicians too thick skulled to think about consequences, and too greedy to face facts.

tasine, "social programs which the US government has no business whatsoever in will be the absolute last to go. EPA, NEA, FDA, HUD will never be touched. Politicians too thick skulled to think about consequences, and too greedy to face facts." Your right about the government has no business taking care of our social needs, that is your and my business. We make it from one day to the next on our own with the fruits of our labors. I feel though that the statement concerning the politicians are too thick skulled to think about consequences and too greedy to face facts. Thickness of the skull got nothing to do with it. The shakers and movers, i.e. House Speaker, the other major players of the house, Plus, Reid, Kerry, Durban, you know the big mouths that you see everyday if you watch C-SPAN, they have visions of the USSA as I seen someone say recently on digg. The others you don't hear much out of , I can't say they know what is going on or not. Who ever they are they sure seem to be going along with the program. I can't believe there are that many politicians who are willing to give up on the real American experiment. We the people are the ones that have to change things. The politicians will not.

Sounds a lot like the mistake the U.S. made in the 2008 Presidential election.
