theweek.com — If we?re to begin to roll back our stupid and deadly drug war, the stigma of responsible drug use has got to end, and marijuana is the best place to start. We?ll make real progress when solid, upstanding folk come out of the cannabis closet, heads held high. So here we go. My name is Will Wilkinson. I smoke marijuana, and I like it.

We get it; you're a high school student with a lot of pot-dealing friends and no serious responsibilities. Enjoy it.

800,000 were arrested last year in the U.S. for possession. That's a lot...

I, on the other hand, love a good pickle once in a while.

I agree with Will on this and though I'm not American I think the discussion needs to be started up by professionals and people in the public eye north of the border as well. I smoke pot and I like it.... I even put it up on youtube. I hope other professionals out there follow suit.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4a2D1NaWEeA

The first anti-Marijuana laws in America were Anti-Mexican laws, to keep immigrants from making money. The War on Drugs really took off when dorky old Nixon realized that most people in the counter-culture, the young, rebellious generation, and a lot of poor and minorities smoke Marijuana. It became a proxy target since you can't just openly say you are declaring war on the teenagers, or on Mexicans and blacks, or on poor people, or on people who disagree with the government. I had a year of my life ruined by southern conservative Baptist cops because of a small amount of a harmless plant that the God that they supposedly believe in put on this Earth, meanwhile, there are people driving around getting people to blow in their breathalizers who have had a half dozen and more DUIs/DWIs. It's all about money. A lot of Marijuana still comes from Mexico (although California, Oklahoma, and states in the southeast with mountain ranges grow a lot), and as Chris Rock said "it's all right if it's all white", meaning that if a few large corporations controlled most of the Marijuana, the way they do with alcohol and tobacco, and lobbied with the politicians, you could get it at 7-11 next to Budweiser and Marlboro, which cause a million times more injury, illness, violence, and destruction of property than Marijuana ever has or will. Cities and counties and states get federal money for locking up non-violent drug offenders. And, like our military, much of our prison industry is private companies. They lobby against legalization because if it was legal, there goes the prisoners, which is what they get paid to do. Watch the documentaries "Grass" and "The American Drug War". I could go on about this forever, but I will stop now...

I hate pot, I don't smoke it, and I wish it would be legal so it would be no big deal and everybody would stop being so obsessed with it. Also, I'm tired of seeing this article in the political opinion column :P

The only reason I'm a republican was because I registered to vote for Ron Paul.So go to hell with your idiotic partisanship generalizations and labeling.Oh wait, I forgot... This is Digg. It's "cool" to bash republicans.Let's all conveniently forget that both parties are full of smug morons who laugh at the idea of legalization, and I'll leave it at that.

Ha! White Horse was the first place I went in Allson. I went there on a bus party thrown by some friends of mine who had just bought a school bus that runs on vegetable oil.

How about straight A's in a pre-med degree program at a top ten university, straight A's in a nursing degree program, and gainful employment as an RN, all while smoking pot daily. Not that everyone could or should do that, but I want to point out that I'm not an unemployed loser. If I can function at a higher level than many non-drinking, non-smoking people, what's the harm to society if I smoke pot? If it harms me, well that's my choice. Personally, I think the stress relief outweighs any negative effects.

There needs to be more people out there like you, Emjaymj.
dustinss5Apr 21, 2010
that's a silly statement. It all depends on the person, man.
