Excuse me? Why in the flying f**k is this a story on Digg? White teeth, trimmed jaw and a policy description that speaks in generalities and says nothing specific. Congratulations, you look JUST like every other political candidate. You only lack a definitive policy other than emotional-affect-driven bulls**t. Is that your trump card? Sir, I think you might want to reconsider your campaign strategy.
@PolygoneNo, smeghead, it is not a matter of not being able to decide without the labels. I just think it sparks an interesting discussion since the show leaves out any mention of party politics in a depiction of a political campaign. That is a little like talking about scuba diving without mentioning water. In this show it is conspicuously absent--they have for whatever reason intentionally written Nathan Petrelli as ideologically neutered. I think this is in part so they can portray him in as morally flexible and more unpredictable, leaving the viewer to question and fill in the blanks for themselves. This is like the way the writers have evolved the character HRG. Early in the season he gave off the strong villain vibe, but now?--not so much. . However, the writers allude to either major political parties for Petrelli by playing with historical reputations --even if undeserved-- of real-world politicians. I phrased the post as a question, because I was honestly curious about how other diggiots and heroes fans would interpret it. And, I was also wondering if there was an obscure reference--possibly one I may have missed--that gave it all away. It would be interesting to see if people would overlay their own political ideology in the absence of one, or would they assume that Petrelli is the opposite of their political views because he is not completely likable. The last episode made mention of Linderman's plan to capitalize on the public reaction to a nuclear explosion in New York. Coming from a character who is giving of the villain vibe right now, they seem to be putting the ideological cards on the table. Anyway, thank you for your truly insightful thoughtful and well reasoned reply. Out of curiosity if you had to choose, what party would YOU think he is?
@FreddieD,No, I was not implying that Republicans do not commit adultery. Clearly they have their own predispositions when it comes to sexual scandals. After all, we have seen congressman Foley thrown out of office, and Jeff Gannon male-prostitute/softball-journalist as a frequent white house "visitor."However if I said the three words: ....Politician ...Getting ...Laid ... what are the first two names that pop in to your thoughts? (If you first thought of Newt you have a whole other set of issues) Regardless of it how well deserved it is, the man-slut reputations are the legacies of political and pop-culture media echo from JFK and Bill Clinton, and are amplified by the campaigns to discredit them. I guess I may have been unintentionally implying that Democrats have a better chance of having sex with the likes of Nikki/Jessica or Claire's biological blowtorch mother. Of course, I have no definitive proof of this but something seems to be working for the Dems. Have you seen Elizabeth Kucinich?http://thinkprogress.org/2007/03/27/kucinich-interview/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6V5Ur2Kgam0&mode=related&search=Another parallel that would exist between the fictional congressman Petrelli and the secret daughter born out of wedlock, like Strom Thurmond's Daughter.
