gizmodo.com — A video contest is being held to showcase "just what Linux means to those who use it, and hopefully inspires many to try it." It's up to you to assemble an ad that will rival those of the high-honed ad agencies contracted by Apple and Microsoft.

tykwondingo is a douche for his comment, as UKsHaDoW's first post was perfectly coherent.UKsHaDoW is a douche for his reply, as every complete sentence is either gramatically incorrect or at least really awkwardly constructed, all while rebutting criticisms of his writing being incoherent.

Holding Linux back? From what, outcompeting Windows? The goal of "Linux" (or really the broader umbrella of GNU, Linux, and related projects) has never been to make a united platform to crush Microsoft and Windows. Assuming that such a "conspiracy" or united front exists is one of the main mistakes a lot of "outsiders" and "semi-outsiders" make when trying to understand Linux (incidentally, many of them are Windows power-users who think they understand all operating systems because they know how to run regedit). The reasons Linux isn't replacing Windows on the desktop: 1) inertia; 2) the open source culture isn't "designed" or geared specifically with intent to smash anything in particular. That's not to say Microsoft won't fall someday, just that that's not the point.Quoth Linus:"Really, I'm not out to destroy Microsoft. That will just be a completely unintentional side effect."

@ethana2 You should use OS X in your trend instead of Apple. If you want to compare OS's.http://www.google.com/trends?q=os+x%2C+ubuntu%2C+f ...

Why not run with the idea? Linux commercial based on ice cream shops. Everyman goes into the "Apple" store and he can get one flavor. Granted it's a good flavor, maybe strawberry cheesecake, but the Everyman passes it up, he's tired of strawberry cheesecake. Everyman goes into the "Windows" store and there is french vanilla, vanilla bean, french vanilla bean, plain vanilla, economy vanilla and ice milk. Sure he can add toppings, there's even a few toppings he can add for free but still, it's just vanilla. Everyman seems a bit depressed. After all, these are the only two stores he knows. He talks to a passer-by on the street who notices he's looking a little down. Passer-by tells him of another place. The ice cream repository. Everyman follows the directions and sees not one, not two, not even three flavors. Everyman walks in and there is ice cream everywhere he looks in every flavor he can imagine. The catch phrase at the end "Choice is good". Have Linux written across the floor of the ice cream repository. Could even go into a whole series of commercials, all focused around the idea of choice. @DAC1138I like that idea, even if your original purpose was simply to try and ruin the thread for Linux users.

@DarkShroudThe average consumer would have more trouble setting up Windows than Linux. Preinstalled, properly installed, Linux is no more difficult than Windows. Actually, it's no more difficult than Windows in 5 years from now. Hopefully by then they'll have package managers.

Funny thing is, only programmers and hard-core geeks associate Linux with "programmers and hard-core geeks". The people I've gotten to use Linux actually like it. They just didn't know what it was until I showed them.
