baltimoresun.com — Mallalieu said his professor "held the door shut" while several students darted to the windows. Some climbed up on desks, ledges and a radiator cover to pull the screens down and kick at the metal-framed glass. Three windows easily gave way and swung open on hinges as the gunshots got louder.

There is a time and a place for such discussion. This isn't it. All the people pushing for gun controls, gun rights, or finding some reason to metion Iraq need to talk less and think more. Think more about the parents who will spend today making funeral arrangements for their child. Think more about what makes someone value life so little that he would kill 32 people, most of whom he likely never met. Think more about the courage it took for Dr. Loganathan to stand there and hold the door shut in the face of certain peril. How many of us would have done the same? I would like to think I would, but if the time ever came I doubt I would have that courage.

As the ancient Chinese warriors would say: It was a good death!

Just to clarify, the first post that I made of "Sucky" was referring to the crappy situation where he died helping others.

@reaper0fanguishI know you mean well but Professor Librescu was an Israeli not Iranian. Either way I think he would be proud of most everyone here and the gratitude that we bestow upon him.

@valiko75I spent most all of last night trying to keep this digg respectable and meaningful. Most of the hateful people must be kids just being kids. At least that is what I told myself to have restraint and not let this digg turn out like most of the others. I tried not to bring very much attention to the disrespectful ones. I just kept digging them down so I would not have to read them. I too had strong emotions and felt compelled to exhaust it on something constructive. There was nothing else I could do to help those in need so I was selfish and helped myself. It was very uplifting to read all of the nice things everyone has written. It gives me hope that most everyone here can see tragedy and find some kind of strength in it. I agree with you that animals are easier to love but I never take the easy route. My tonight be more peaceful for you...and may the days get shorter for those who lost loved ones.

@dregga> "The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of the > mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one."I always wondered if Salinger was a jerk. Now I know. The flaw inthe logic is that living humbly and dying noble are not contradictory. This man did both.Regarding,``It's a lot like Pat Tillman - the man had a successful career as a football player, a wife and kids, and he enlisted in the army and was killed by friendly fire. He left his wife and kids behind for the guts and glory. Yet God help you if you question people's admiration for his sacrifice.''If there is a god, then may it help you. In WWII, many rich and famous guys, actors, pro athletes, sons of rich men, served in harm's way. They lived far from humbly till they served, some died nobly, and everything about their service and death in battle was noble. Yourfreedom to type your venom is directly derived from their sacrifices. Going back, a few thousand years, the 300 who died at Thermopylae were the rock stars of their time (probably quite a few Olympic Gold medalists among those guys, not to mention a King) and had they not died for Greece, history would have turned out quite a bit differently, for the worse, for most of us.

Look at this: http://nonpartypolitics.blogspot.com/2007/04/was-v-tech-gunman-punish-comic-book-fan.htmlIt might explain SOME of this killer's choice of poses, demeanor and weaponry when he committed these awful attacks. But then again, it could be a complete coincidence.
