guardian.co.uk — Of course Facebook receives its fair share of criticism, but Idler editor Tom Hodgkinson does some old fashioned investigative reporting about those running the social networking site. A liberterian genius with loads of cash and a professed neo-conservative ideology. An uber-capitalist experiment. I'm rethinking my Facebook membership as we speak.

OMG, the CIA can access my information?! This is quite shocking as I figured they couldn't access my emails before Facebook! Seriously, are people this stupid? The CIA can access whatever the hell they want to. I don't support it but it's true regardless of who is backing FAcebook. As to the ads, well I WANT to be told about things that I'm interested in. Call me crazy but if I say I like 'This Is Spinal Tap' and a film comes out that's similar and I get an ad telling me about it, well I'm glad for it. If that's your idea of 'injustice' than you're pathetic.

After reading this article I deleted my MySpace profile. Facebook is more of a challange because I use to market and promote my business...maybe I'll end up outsourcing the maintenance of my Facebook profile to my assistant ;-) like Tim Ferris in the 4-Hour Workweek.

With full disclosure, I use and enjoy facebook. But I have to say that this article does bring up some disturbing items to think about. There is are a number of younger generations that are plugged into the social networks - and it is there that some of us would have to be in order to connect with them. I can't see abandoning them - at least not yet!
