harpers.org — The typical Republican propagandist will tell you the "liberal media" is painting an unfairly bleak picture of Iraq. The truth is, the situation is even WORSE than the "liberal media" is telling you. Newsweek's Rod Nordland describes how the US military controls the news coming out of Iraq.

No no no... didn't you hear? We were greeted as liberators, accomplished our mission quickly and the insurgency is in it's last throes. Things are fine.Would you like some Kool-Aid?

Clearly this is important to the Digg audience, otherwise they wouldn't be digging it. I really don't understand why people complain about the all the political stories when it is so easy to edit your preferences so that you don't even see them.

Try talking to a Marine or soldier that has really been there. My brother is a Marine and spent the better part of a year over in Iraq in 2005, and he said that it is much BETTER than is reported.Of course there are going to be problems with people. There are bad apples everywhere. There are bad cops, firefighters, EMTs, programmers, politicians, etc. Also, how they can expect to roam freely when the military was expected to protect them is ridiculous, as-is the "absurdity" about them not being given information DURING an assault. The military have MUCH more important things to do than talk to a news correspondent DURING an assault. If you want to be so blind as to think otherwise, then go ahead, but these reports are just absurd and pathetic.

All these people talking about how justified and noble this war is... how many of you have served? Honest question. Now, how many who support but haven't served are between the ages of 18 and 33? I ask that one because if you haven't served and are between the ages of 18 and 33 the good news is you can still enlist and show just how much you support the troops and the president.. I was an 0311 from 81-85.... I was prepared to fight for my country, my countrymen and freedom. This war is none of that for me... but if it is for you then go enlist. Put your life where your mouth is or shut your sucks.

Yeah, bonchbonchbonch, only liberal media types are dubious about the whole Iraq mission. Conservative's and soldiers are all thrilled: http://www.amconmag.com/2006/2006_07_03/article.html

@theoallardyceYou're right, it has nothing to do with Bush being the highest value target from our country. No, that has nothing to do with it. Thanks for setting us straight. This [computer programming, male] pussy cannot wait to graduate college and join the Marines as an officer. I am sure I will be deployed somewhere, but this pussy (as well as my brother already in the Marines, who has gone to Iraq) is ready for it and so is my family. I hope you pick a fight with a Marine and I hope I am there to see it.Keep on hating America, moron.@ZarconFox gets slammed for it because the others are usually so far left that anything remotely balanced seems far to the right. Of course they have some more conservatives than the other channels, but I have the feeling that that is because they did not weed them out, rather than them selecting just liberals.

@pickypgSorry, not seeing anything there that fits. Unless you see the entire Muslim world as our enemy, and the protesting as being emboldened, I'm seeing nothing.

"Didn't we rightfully censor the press during world war 2?"No. It was wrong and illegal then, and it is wrong and illegal now. Read the constitution."It's become apparent that our media is doing more to embolden the enemy than discourage them."Doesn't matter. This is America. You cannot silence someone just because you don't like what they're saying. Read the constitution.
