torrentfreak.com — "People accused of uploading the game 'Dream Pinball', who claim they are the victim of a hacker, are starting to get letters back from lawyers explaining what they should do next. Among other things, the lawyers are demanding that the accused demonstrate computer security skills in providing evidence..."

here's a hint, If you get a letter from a lawyer, demanding anything, give it to your lawyer... they can't demand anything without a warrant. they are not police, and just because they demand something means absolutely s**t.

It's good to remember that this is a civil suit, not criminal. All that has to be shown is that "damages" were caused by the defendant, not that any laws were broken. So it could be argued in court that the action of not securing a router "damaged" the client. This is why the American court system is such a load of crap.

Do you really think that's some component generated by US legal system? Maybe they need to start teaching legal history in grade school?

@varmit"Because who is talking about multiple drivers here, how does that even apply here, because the router was most likely hacked by one person to route the traffic for them to stay out of trouble. Which truthfully, is hard to believe."Um... it's relevant because routers allow multiple people to use the same connection at the same time. And, unlike a router, you can't have multiple people driving a car at the same time. From the ISP's point of view, all they see is the router. Everything else is handled on the local network by the router. Hackers have nearly always used compromised computer systems (yes, a router is a computer) to divert attention away from themselves. It's called "trying not to get caught." Think about it, if you were a hacker, who would you be more concerned about, the clueless neighbor whose wireless network you're using, or the RIAA?
