support.microsoft.com — Security and critical updates are now available from the Microsoft Download Center. I run across a few 3rd party sites providing Windows Updates for people with questionable cd keys. Microsoft is making these updates for Win2000,XP, and 2003 available in a downloadable ISO image.Great for those who want to save all the trips to Windows Update!

So why is this better than just changing the key by "registering by phone"?

Yes on second thought the ISO file seems like a waste. It only includes the most recent patch and it has the patch for lots of MS Operating Systems. The only one the consumer needs is XP. Useless to download fixes for Windows Server, Itanium, XP 64, etc. Just follow chrono13 suggestions and everything will be good.
