You know, that's not a bad idea. If they used 198.99.118.36, not only would it be more believable, but Diggers with too much time on their hands would inevitably see where it leads (cbs.com, in this case). Sneaky marketing opportunity!
I do realize that VB can be a powerful tool, and yes GUI and GOOEY are sort of interchangeable. I think what i found to be most amusing about the whole thing was the fact that they had some advisor on set to tell her what to say to sound smart.I am not saying i totally understand the job of a CSI, but I doubt that they take semen swabs, run the lab, do autopsies, get in gun fights, chase criminals, and create GUIs using VB all in the same job... It seems to me that there would be a computer forensics person, a detective, a forensic laboratory assistant, and an actual CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATOR on the scene collecting the evidence. Instead they all do everything..... I hate that and when i see videos like this it makes me cry one small indian tear.
If they're going to say technobabble, it could at least make sense, as long as it can do so without disrupting the plot.Hey, I actually don't have much problem with them uploading a tracer program into a car to track it somewhere as long as it's not the crux of the show or something. It's a fair Macguffin.
