xbox360.ign.com — IGN Editor Doug Perry has written a wonderfully satirical piece about the (possible) future costs of console gaming. Definitely a must read for all those that are livid about the recent EA Marketplace content and anyone who fears the word "consumables".

Just because technology enables you to charge people money for absolutely everything doesn't mean consumers are willing to pay.Sensationalist and assumes everyone is stupid. No digg.

You don't even need a modchip anymore. The 360 has been hacked by simply flashing the dvd players firmware.http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEuZyyVFyprcUrLDTt.php

"Sensationalist and assumes everyone is stupid. No digg."The more I see of humanity, the more I think that's probably a safe assumption.

(fyi I did NOT RTFA)I think the main problem with this sort of market, is that games will by default ship with less features. Why give me everything in the game for $60 when you could give me half of it, and goad me into paying $1 for "extra" (originally default) guns, levels, items, outfits, features, modes and anything else. There is no incentive for the manufacturer to make a good, complete game. Just do it half assed, and fix everything in updates that people need to pay for.Unfortunately it seems all companies view customers like Dave Chapel's Pop Copy"Why? Because F*ck 'em, that's why."

"WoW's fee, and really most MMORPGs in general is INCREDIBLY small."No. No, it's not."Would you rather pay $40 for a game that you beat in 10 hours, or pay $15 extra per month for a game that will last you literally hundreds or thousands of hours?"BLATANTLY false dilemma. What about paying $40-50 for a game that has a free multiplayer component? Or hell, how about just a plain, old-fashioned good game with high replay value?I've been playing Battlefield for "literally hundreds or thousands of hours" and it didn't cost me the $180 dollars. It cost $50. I still go back and play GTA a bit. That didn't cost $540. It cost $50.I am so sick of this "$15 a month is a VALUE" crap coming from the WoWers. It's not a value. At all. It's a lame justification and double standard of people paying a monthly fee for a single game as being alright, but any other fee for other gaming is bad.

After giving in to peer pressure, I went out and got my very own 360. never really thought about the ENTIRE cost, especially the $50 dollar extra controller...ponying up ANOTHER 50 for xbox live...then dropping another 60 to play ghost recon with my friends. Ok so there goes 600 or so bucks...then I put the game in, and to download the maps everyone else plays on its another 20 bucks?!? I think its only going to get worse. the saving grace I see for xbox live is the free demos..otherwise I'd get real sick of spending 60 bucks a pop on games to find that they suck as well...

Wait until PC developers start charging for patches....Charging players to pay for a fix to a broken game. Which is in no way their fault. :|Well I guess players already do that with MMO's, but of coure I'm sure the Bandwidth costs that Blizzard encounters aren't exactly cheap for WoW...but I'm sure their doing alright with their 7 million or so subscribers.
