retro.ign.com — IGN has put together a monster. The complete history of SEGA. There will never be another SEGA. While their reign as a first-party has long ended, and the name hardly carries the cachet it once had, the industry owes deep debt to the former giant.

I wish Sonic had the longevity that Sega did.

Well you wouldn't know it from sales figures. It's apparently offering plenty to the people who are willing to buy them. I own a 360, not a Wii or PS3, and I fully understand the appeal of the Wii. Do I wish it could do high definition? Sure. I'd probably have one by now if it did. Do most people give a rat's ass? Clearly not.Numbers: http://vgchartz.com/

The main difference between Sega after Dreamcast and Nintendo after GameCube was that Nintendo made tons of money on GameCube. Nintendo made money on every system sold so even if they only sold a few million(and they sold a lot more then that) they were making good money and thats not even including games.Sega could never do that unfortunately.

i dunno. the regular "sonic" parts of Sonic Adventure were f**king awesome.too bad the other parts sucked. and Sonic Adventure 2 was just terrible. Why force me to play as the other lame characters when all i want to do is go super fast collecting rings as Sonic???

Convinced? Did you even read the article? The real failure started when they started making addons to the Genesis and made bad decisions with the Saturn.

Hell yeah! Good to see some people still remember that game.

Really good article! I think that SEGA is a great company, and with its consoles it has helped the evolution of the videogames. Unluckily, the market is a killer without mind.
