arstechnica.com — Last week, Internet Explorer Group Program Manager Chris Wilson wrote a blog post where he discussed Internet Explorer (IE) and its CSS compliance. In a nutshell, the report said that IE 6 and IE 7 can't match the level of standards support found in Opera and Firefox.

Utter wankers you think with their resources, they could support CSS as much as their competitors. Its just another indication like the delay in Vista they have f**ked up project managers. Hopefully web developers will promote the other browsers on the websites they have created.

Contrary to what the "CSS compliance" report said, IE7 makes great improvements over IE6 wrt CSS support, as shown in this channel9 video:<a class="user" href="http://channel9.msdn.com/Showpost.aspx?postid=188986">http://channel9.msdn.com/Showpost.aspx?postid=188986</a>They don't have time to get to FF's level in IE7's timeframe, but they've committed to frequent updates once IE7 is released, so IE8 will be out relatively soon, which will likely match/surpass FF.

d) falls into the category of (b).I don't care about their business needs, I care about the standards being followed. What you're saying is in essence that Microsoft doesn't care to follow standards because it doesn't make them money. Fine, but don't call it "CSS". Call it "CSSMS". Otherwise it's called "embrace and extend" and this is evil in my book. MS has always hated standards but played the game to make people happy, but when it comes down to it, MS takes no action. If that's how they view business, fine, we'll see how long that business model lasts. Others seem to make money and not violate standards. I bet I know who will last longer.

Which is great, they can do whatever they want, but they don't deserve to say that they adhere to CSS standards.

I haven't seen any anti IE or adverts discouraging you from using IE instead of a different browser, haven't seen any adverts, flyers, websites, campaigns by companies, etc at all! have you? it doesn't work, people use what they want, your not going to change someones mind by flashing big 'download firefox or opera' banners all of your site rendering it impossible to read to ie users; people just go to the next site which doesn't have a web developer who thinks that microsoft suck, yet firefox's is the best (firefox is better, but no where near perfect. proper css rendering ala acid2 test is a better sign up quality, and sadly firefox doesn't not do this)

My sole frustration with IE7 at this point is the fact that IE7 Beta 1 worked with sites that the latest IE7 does not. In other words, there was a time when it was more compliant with heavy CSS, and now it is worse. That said, it is much better than IE6 on many points, and its sandboxed mode in Vista really does make it a secure browser. For several things, as a result, I will use it in Vista. But I'm not dumping Opera for my daily casual browsing.
