local6.com— Oklahoma already has the strawberry as its official fruit, so the state Senate cleared the way Tuesday to declare the watermelon the state vegetable.

The court can determine what can and cannot be governed in legislation, though. And in this instance, they determined that if congress wishes to pass an act declaring the burrito the most delicious sandwich in America, they may do so.
That's dumb. Maybe the parts on the very end are reproductive in nature, but I also eat the stems. Fruit is ripened plant ovary, not stems and bud like things.
Okay, so maybe we probably shouldn't have named the watermelon our state veggie, but I truly don't get what the big deal is. If your not from Oklahoma it doesn't affect you and if you are from Oklahoma and don't like it move. If you don't want to move then ignore it. AND just because a person lives in Oklahoma it doesn't make them stupid. There are alot of very intelligent people in this state, maybe just not in our state senate.

FRUITS MAKE ALCOHOLI hesitate to even call the tomato a fruit. It has been listed as a vegetable, for taxation purposes, but the debate continues to rage over what it really is. There is no way I can be convinced the tomato is a fruit, because it can not produce alcohol. Fruits make wine, brandy and many other lovely products to enjoy on a hot day. The tomato does not, and that is why you will never find a bottle of tomato ice wine in your local wine region.ref: http://theblogofray.blogspot.com/2006/09/sorry-grandpa-your-tomatoes-were.html
