arstechnica.com— Would you buy or rent ad-supported movies if they were priced lower? A new patent from IBM details a system to make that option a possibility.

Likewise I will working at an ad agency someday soon so of course I support any way that can sell products. I say If you have a problem with capitalism move to North Korea.
Sort of like cable/sat TV. I pay a pretty penny for Sat TV, and still have to use my Tivo(which I pay more for) to bypass the stupid commercials. I understand network TV having commercials since it is offered free OTA, but why again do cable/sat-only channels have commercials?Maybe they can offer two versions and let the people speak. Movie rental/purchase (ad infused) is $1/$5 or movie rental/purchase (without any ads AT ALL) for the current price. Even if I chose to watch the ad infused one, at least there would be a *real* cost benefit to me (don't see that happening though as I'm pretty anti-commercial)
The sheeple won't notice the ads. The Pirates will rip them out. IBM will attempt to bone us, and the smart will not be...I've stopped going to movies cuz of screaming brats and other s**t as well as ads.
Consumers vote with their eyeballs. Advert inserts get products sold. Use adverts inserted well into the film, such as an advertiser pays to have his product as part of the film like Mountain Dew was part of a fight scene in Fight Club. That can get a 200 million dollar film paid for if enough are used, and opening night movie goers do dish out plenty of $$.

People who rip don't notice the commercials. That will be the case with these new IBM disks. The poor things will be ripped.

Rip the shows with your Linux box! Then cut out the advert-dross. Linux doesn't interfere with your ability to compute.

Advert inserts will be untouched.
