wfsb.com — Just saw the report on TV, Comp USA in Manchester CT (I was there just last week) - Watch the video, these guys walked right up behind the counter and they took 25 IPODS then walked right out - with NO employees watching the store!

I use Linux + Firefox, it works fine for me. Just get the mplayer firefox plugin from sourceforge, works a treat.

I was at that store last week. There is only 3 people working there and who knows where the rest are. Not too long ago they had security guys at the exit and ould check your bag. Nothing like scrutinizing your customer and making them feel like a common thief. Thanks god for Newegg

Brazen bandits is a misnomer the proper term is intelligent thieves. My last semester of high school I learned a very important lesson. Being a TA for the main office had it's perks, so did only having four classes, I would end up staying through lunch and 5th period to help out (I was a loser). However, even the teachers and campus supervisors that did not know me would never question me because I walked with authority in areas that were off limits. The entire year I was stopped twice, once by a teacher asking me if I was allowed in the faculty bathroom and once by a campus supervisor who had control issues when I was getting a soda for one of the secretaries. I realized on a subsequent trip to Best Buy (before they had the door nazi's) that you could grab one of the computers that were resting on a pallette and walk out like you just purchased it and no one would question. My biggest issue with this story is that they were wearing MASKS. Who the hell lets someone into the store wearing a ski mask? Seriously. I gotta give em respect though because they did their job efficiently and proved a very valid point to corporate (that they will miss entirely) being, you need to have employee's that do their job.Another word of advice, loss prevention cannot stop you legally unless you have stolen something or you can sue them. Stolen being defined as leaving the store with property you did not purchase. You do not have to stop for door nazi's (with the possible exceptions of places like costco, don't make waves) and if loss prevention tackles you you can sue for false imprisonment and physical damages. I only let them check my bags dependant upon my mood, never had one chase me down yet but I'm waiting for the burly loss prevention guy to grab me and I will prompty stomp or elbow something soft(unwarranted physical contact in a situation where you are not in violation of the law is considered assault, so my response was to protect myself). When they tackle me I will claim assault and battery along with false imprisonment, sign the NDA and get my standard 5 figure settlement incurring a minimal of legal fees. I love this country.

See... stories like this make me feel that I can never return to the US from Japan. In %90 of the retail joints/restaurants here, the customer service is so good that one feels disappointed if ya don't hear 'irrashaimase' ( howdy) about 20 times. And there's almost no crime in JP... most libraries don't even have scanners that beep if you walk out with an unchecked book.In some stores, if they have to figure something out or whatever, the Rep actually JOGs to where they need to get to, i.e, Yodobashi Camera (Any Westerner would have an orgasm, like me, simply walking into one 'cause of the selection) , and delivery charges are negligible. Just sayin'... maybe 'cause I've been drinking all day... but it's all true... Yeah, there are tons and tons of stories about weird JP fetishes, but they have customer service down to a science.

This is the funniest story (IMHO) all week, 2 guys walk right in and take a dozen iPods. And NO ONE from the store saw anything.
