dailyfueleconomytip.com— In order to recoup the premium paid to own a hybrid rather than a regular gas sipper (think Prius vs. Yaris), you'd have to drive roughly 500,000 miles.

You're better off going with what you can afford. Plain and simple. If you've got the funds to buy a hybrid and want one, buy one. In another five years or so, one more hybrid on the secondary market. If you can only afford a fuel-powered car, then f**k anyone who looks down on you for buying what you can afford.I'm tired of the asshat hybrid owners who look down on anyone who doesn't drive a hybrid (not all owners do this though). Are we supposed to apologize for not having the money to buy a brand new high-priced car? Might save money in the very-long-run and be better for the environment, but we've got to eat today or we won't be alive ten years from now.
What do you mean? I think in order to see how long it truly takes to recover the cost you'd probably need to not only look at the cost of gas, but how much you'd be spending on gas for what you'd be driving otherwise.
SUV = $30,000 (+4x as much money for gas)Prius = $20,000s**t, you already break even when you get the hybrid...if the other car you were planning on getting was an SUV.

Hey Patrick - there's good cradle to grave analysis of various "green" car options here: http://greenhome.huddler.com/wiki/are-alternative- ...Shows biodiesel, hybrids, EVs, etc.

I think it's worth the money to do less environmental damage and push the market toward alternative forms of energy.

I have nothing against people who drive normal cars, I have something against assh**es who chose to buy an SUV after 2000 or to fit in for fashion.
