msnbc.msn.com — Would you like to breathe underwater like a fish? Researchers think they've found a way to create a device that will take oxygen right out of the water like fish and other marine animals (not mammals, of course).

This thing's going to go through a lot of water; humans need a lot more oxygen for metabolism than fish do, and that means a fast pump/filter/whateverdeviceisdoing this, which means a lot of power, which means they're either taking a fuel cell down with them, or they're tethered, which in the case of the latter defeats the purpose of pulling the oxygen out of the air in the first place. And then we've got the ecofreaks: "Think of the fish, we're robbing them of their oxygen!!"

ToddML, they specifically say that folding ala heatsink doesn't work.It ends up absorbing all the local oxygen, and then stops working.

Yep, heard about it (though I really did find it hard to believe). Some Russian researcher invented it, so it's no wonder nobody has ever heard of it ... probably USSR officials threw it in the bin as unimportant or not as cool as nukes.

If animals can do it, we can too.<a class="user" href="http://www.amazingfactsworld.com" rel="nofollow">http://www.amazingfactsworld.com</a>
