gizmodo.com— Hulu, at the behest of its co-parent News Corp, is going to start charging for content in 2010. This is not so good, this here news.

They don't offer anything ground breaking to pay for. If they offered better services than say the torrents themselves, I would gladly pay. Instead they want to offer me crap with DRM loaded crap that barely works on some computers and have to pay for it.These big broadcasters need to get with the times and start offering better services or get left behind. Let the free market roam.Hulu was a great start, I didn't mind the commercials there, but they're not offering me that much for a pay service.
I will NEVER pay for content that is bound in commercials again. I'll pay for it commercial-free (if the price is worth the product), or I'll watch it with commercials for the cost of my time. Double dipping won't fly in the new media. My iPod would be a paperweight fast if iTunes started inserting ads into my downloaded music. That's the same thing cable TV networks/Hulu are attempting to justify.
@cupid311 - Actually, some people do pay to use Netflix just for streaming. I hardly have time to watch live tv, so I cancelled my cable and use netflix as pretty much my sole source for streaming entertainment. I do get movies delivered as well, but most of the time the movies sit on my desk for months at a time before I get around to watching them. My kids, however, watch cartoons daily from netflix.
Are torrents really competition.. Its like saying "you could get a job.. or go with the competition and start robbing people".. its an option yes but come on now..I understand, Torrents ARE a reality but I wouldn't call it competition.. How exactly can you do "better" than free, no commercial, no drm, etc...I understand the point but how exactly can anyone compete with that ever? Even the nicest un-corporate independent brand cannot do anything like that and still be successful.
SuicideMouse, you're missing the point. Hulu provides an on-demand service. Yes, you can watch the latest episode of Two and a Half Men over the air for free. But can you watch the 7th episode of the 2nd season over the air any time you want? No, you can watch it when it is broadcast. Or, you can pay for the convenience of being able to pick and choose what you want to watch and when you want to watch it.

There's plenty of Hulu wannabes out there on the internet. If Hulu wants to commit suicide, i say whatever.

Then I shall continue to watch my TV shows through underground sources as I always have.
