huffingtonpost.com — Watching the media cover marijuana is fascinating, offering deep insight into conventional wisdom, bias and failure to properly place science in context. The coverage of a new study claiming that marijuana increases the risk of later psychotic illnesses like schizophrenia by 40% displays many of these flaws.

i hate big tobacco, i love cannabis, but i don't know why you said 'this study was done by the tobacco industry.' i read:In the study researchers from the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand, Wakefield Hospital and the Wellington School of Medicine and Health Sciences, studied 339 volunteers.please let us know why you believe it was the tobacco industry. without this information you come dangerously close to sounding like the sensationalist media.

i would say that we should start with something that could be defined as evidence. this study admits that there is no evidence that cannabis is harmful. it showed a very minor correlation between cannabis and psychoses and (this can never, ever be said enough) CORRELATION IS NOT CAUSATION. it never will be.

Umm... He meant that the tiny risk of each is not a big deal in the context of wider use. Nobody is afraid of aspirin because a handful of people have had a severe negative reaction. People should apply the same reasoning to pot.Plus, the credible studies I've seen seem to indicate that cannabis use can trigger a latent psychosis, but has no psychosis-inducing effects on 'normal' people. If you're on the verge of a psychotic break, smoking pot may be the triggering event, but if you're not, pot won't put you there.

It also kills brain cells too. Especially when the "controlled environment" deprived the test monkeys of oxygen! What's wrong with hearing voices anyway? As long as they're saying things like,"Settle down man." and "Hey, let's watch Discovery."

I thought pot made me schizophrenic once, but we're okay now.
