I am very impressed it has lasted this long - just shows when you build something correctly and give it the proper funding the machine could last forever.Just look at the Mars rovers. We learned from our mistakes the first time, threw additional funding at it and they're still rolling around the planet!But agreed, it's 16 years old. With todays technology just think what else we could be finding! I think it's time to send off another one for replacement!
The replacement is already being funded it is called JWST or (James Webb Space Telescope) it is being built mainly by the same company that saved the original Hubble Ball Aerospace.
It was a huge deal here around Huntsville, AL when it first got built. My grandfather did a lot for the design/building . The whole NASA thing is still a big deal.. but Hubble was just really big.
