Yea, anyone with any tech saavy would already know how to do this so for most this is not a great digg story, but ever since digg blew up, not all the users are the most tech-brilliant people . Thats the price you pay when a site this good gets out to the "public", but im glad its doing well!!

Try zonemminder. It can take a bit of farting about with the PHP to get it installed, but it is pretty cool once it is running. There is another program motion that does something similar, but I didn't try that. www.zoneminder.com

I had a similar situation with "someone" breaking branches of tree in the front lawn... I used Easy freewebcam, which emails me when it detects motion and records for a preset amount of time. BTW, they offer a free personal page where you can either see the live video stream or timed pics from your webcam.http://www.easyfreewebcam.com/

I use Yahoo Messenger to view outside my house while I'm at work. Motion detection/recording wouldn't do me any good with all the cars going by. It is very easy to setup (Create 2 yahoo accounts) and you get live video. Just another option.

I use Active Webcam (google it)The name sounds generic, but I have found it to be far more reliable and it has more features then the above programs. The trial-version doesn't expire and is full featured.I have it monitor two web-cams at once.I view the lastest images on my google home page.

If you would read the article you would know that this software can record from multiple cameras.

USB supports 128, so that means 128 cameras, or 128 minus number of usb hubs and switches. Isn't USB like scsi in that respect?
