beedogs.com — I added a story and at the time of this writing there are now at least eleven duplicate stories. Eleven!! I'm sure this has happened to all of you at least once, so for everyones sake, let's figure out the best way to stop this. Comment your ideas.

Stop posting would probably work :-)

Elioty, I agree, the URL should be filtering method. But then again, it's not up to us - it's the digg administrators to enforece this.

Look in the upper right, there's a little box labeled Searchhere are some search tips1. DONT BE TO GRANULAR, search terms work best when they are pretty vague, BUT using the right key wordse.g. the Ariel Atom 2 has been posted here a dozen times as the fastest car, now most people will search for FASTEST CAR and when it doesnt show up in the first 5 posts or so they hit submit anyway, the key is to search for ATOM and then look at all the posts listed. and BTW, its not the fastest car, its really fast yes, but its NOT the fastest.2. when you post and there are some stories already but they are old or did not get dugg that much, DO NOT JUST HIT SUBMIT ANYWAY. if its a dupe and it wasn't put to the front page the first few times, chances are the community didn't deem it necessary to be on the front page.3. if the story is at all older than 1 month, DO NOT SUBMIT it, chances are VERY high that you are the last person on the internet to have found the badger badger badger video or magical trevor or any of those other stupid videos you just found, and we do not need it posted again.

If prevention doesn't work, how about remedy ?I was thinking we can have a feature to merge the dupe stories together.

That's not going to happen. :)If you want to fix this, help me Digg this up. It's a feature idea to solve the story duplication issue:http://www.digg.com/design/Digg_Feature_Idea_Digg_Pile
