arstechnica.com— Microsoft is reportedly worried about "craplets" on Vista PCs. What will it take to get those and other crapware off of new PCs? Dell wouldn't mind charging you $60 for the 'privilege'.

You know, it's easy to say that, but when's the last time you guys installed Windows? Seriously? I do this for a living. I'm an independent consultant, and I install a lot of systems. Here's how the timeline breaks down:Time in minutes - task25 - Unpack and unwrap all components; place in desk45 - Boot from disk and install; complete Windows XP setup interview25 - Complete all Windows system updates35 - Install office, anti-virus, Firefox, user requested software15 - Install additional peripherals like printers, blackberry, etcThat's 2.5 hours to set up a system. If Dell offered me a choice of three things - anti-virus, browser, office software - and no additional crapware, I could save 1.3 hrs or so on every install. My customers would love it. I mean, I enjoy making money and all, but I like to earn it, not make it cleaning up someone else's mess.
Craplet is the greatest word ever. Lets be fair though guys... Vista and the software it comes with is no crappy. Microsoft is really trying, and I think they are going in the right direction. (And I use a Mac...)

Since it will have Linux on it, then there is no crapware present.

They work perfectly fine on OEM disks.. They won't work on retail disks though.. I used to do this all the time with Dells!

that is really sad, macs don't have any craplets. You shouldn't have to uninstall anything when you buy a computer.
