lifehacker.com— for those that don't know, here's a quick walkthrough (with video) on how to install third-party RAM inside a Mac.

The title and summary are inaccurate beacause they refer to 'your Mac' and 'a Mac' when in face the video describes how to install memory in one particular model of the Mac range and is no use to people who don't have that particular model. The submission is lame, because instructions on installing memory are provided in the booklet that's in the box with your Mac. If you want to know how to install memory in 'your Mac' read the instructions that Apple gave you with it.
I never own a Mac but it sure sounds like we have a bunch of Moron PC users.Sure, make fun of MacTEL Users for trying to educate the ignorant. I tell you something, We WinTEL users have a lot more idiots than Mac Users and they stay that way longer. I couldn't believe when I took my first Computer class College how many XP users didn't know about firewalls, anti-virus protection, how to freakn defrag their drive! And to think, that these WinTEL users would know how to install RAM or a New Graphic Card. Yea! Right.... Oh but the story doesn't start there. Some of these clueless users were actually trying for a CIS Major or CS Major. It was fun watching the number of students drift away as the class got progressively harder.I guess it was to hard for them (or they were lazy). However, how much you want to bet that these Wintel Users are still using their Computers and still have all them bad habits. A lot I'm afraid.Maybe you Wintel Morons up above should take notes and realize that education is what grows interest and fosters success in the Computer World. It's working for Linux and it is Working For Apple.Maybe if we Wintel Users had taken the time to make creative ways of educating "our side" instead of being "know-it-all" self righteous pigs - Windows XP/Intel users wouldn't have the reputation it has now ( Shotty equipment, blue screens of death, insecure OS)The fact is : There is plenty of quality hardware for the PC Intel/AMD setups. Also if we Wintel Users had taken the time way in the beginning to educate people in simple ways(Like this Video) on the proper user of Operating XP we would find that XP is really a Great, Stable, OS that with a few extra applications (like firewall, anti-v, and spyware) and monthly Maintenance (No flaming here Linux or Apple fans you have Monthly Maintance too just in different aspects) ANYBODY can Run XP -- Trouble Free.I can't remember the last time I caught a Virus. I've never had the blue screen of death. My XP setup is blazing fast compared even to some Linux Machines with equal bells and whistles attached.Bottom line is: XP can be as fast, as stable, and can be run securely enough to use in a business and home setting. But it takes Education! Creative Education! one that doesn't bore someone to death who don't have the discipline to hear boring lectures or read drab technical documentation.Kudos to this Kid for taking a boring drab simplistic procedure and making it seem quick, easy, and fun.I'm out of here!Peace
Your college computer class, last i checked, everyone had to take a computer class of some sort, but then again, not everyone has a computer. I know engineers (civils and others) who can barely function with a computer, it's not the enviroment, it's the capability of the user. I've ask people if they had their power adapter with them, and they said "what's that?"CS majors, there is another joke, there is only one other computing major that knows less about hardware. Software Engineering. Software is a whole different world. As far as the "programmer" knows, he opens his CAD tools, writes his code, and it just works, (or doesn't work depending on how good he is). He has no idea how the OS schedules his tasks, or how the physical allocations of his data got assigned.Unless you're a CS and specialize in assembly, OS developement or driver coding, you don't know jack about hardware.
How to install RAM in your PC:1. Unscrew the thumb screws.2. Pull off the side panel.3. Plug the RAM into the only hole it will fit in, it will only go in one way no matter how hard you force it.4. Put the side panel back on.5. Screw in the thumb screws.6. Spend the remaining $600 you didn't spend on a Macintosh on beer and pizza.
I don't think that Unix means what you think it means. There's Unix, there's Linux, there's BSD, Irix, etc. Not all of those are actually Unix. Functionally, OS X is a very Unixy operating system. I understand that you feel very important because you read that article, but my point was still valid. I'm not sure you really have one.To answer your question more specifically, though, I own a powerbook and enjoy reading about apple.

This made it to Digg? Can you make a guide on how to wipe your ass too? Because that's obviously necessary for Mac users as well.

Actually I believe that installing ram is just fine.
