cravingideas.blogs.com — "We all have busy lives with very little time. Web surfing is fun but can take hours going to visit every single website and blog you enjoy. Wouldn’t it be fabulous if you could just get all the headlines of the most current stories from all your favorite websites and blogs in one place? Well now you can, and it is called RSS feed. "

Personally, I have never been a fan of RSS. I see the Internet as not only a place to be informed, but also entertained. RSS feeds are generally quite boring to look at, visually, whereas the site that the feed may originate on could well be visually stunning. I don't see why there can't be a compromise on graphic design and data without the need to strip all design away completely.

No, but you get a free download! Just go to http://monkeychow.org and pick up a copy! Woohoo! Don't have your own PHP server? Then there's a bazillion other free readers out there!

Old men on the other hand have trouble getting the Internet itself."RSS essentially is a dedicated Tube."-- from the unseen files of the congress

some of the comments on that blog sound like God has come down from heaven and shown them what the meaning of life is. "I always get in a mess trying to explain RSS to my clients - now I'm just going to send them here!"Though speaking in business terms, having a whole knew demographic understand the internet easier and faster through RSS is a good way to make money off of them.

You are completely on target. Techies (like all of us on Digg) do "Geek Speak" very well and are proud of our technology knowledge. The real challenge is how to get the average consumer to "get it" and see the value and use it. In the new versions of IE7, i tell people that they can just think of it as a bookmark (favorites) that automatically send them new stories or audio or video (podcasts). Most people instantly understand that concept. Most people are already using RSS they just are not aware. (ie. yahoo home pages, google homepages all use RSS under the hood to deliver this content). When i created our "do it yourself podcasting platform" 2 years ago: ( www.podblaze.com ), the criteria for usability was that my 68 year old mother who can barely understand email, could create and understand how a podcast worked. So the goal for all of is to educate people on the ease of use so that adoption rates can increase.Rodney Rumford

What we really need is Dr. Phil...He should come to the Linux Kernel Developers, and their significant others within the FSF writing GPLv3 and have everyone sit down for a nice chat =)
