who bought a gameboy micro anyways, they still make those things?students discounts are the best, im pretty sure thats how apple makes most of their money... they keep making shiny white notebooks and us college students, as broke as we are, will keep buying them.my next gadget purchase is a nice new hdtv from newegg, best prices anywhere.
I disagree with the idea that Black Friday is the best day to buy, and I should know -- I work for a company (whose URL I'll refrain from linking :-) that does reviews and ratings for various consumer electronics. While it is absolutely true that Black Friday and then the following Cyber-Monday are the biggest volume days, by far, deals are usually best had in mid- to late-January. This isn't always true (TVs were a prime example of scary 11th hour deep discounts that has since gone away), but it usually is. Retailers and manufacturers are very good, usually, at predicting demand, and thus generally produce the right number of units. They also count on people looking for post Christmas (er, I mean Holiday) deals and prices actually tend to rise in the last week of the year. Then, after people get their credit card bills, and as the CES show happens in early January, the new models are hot and the old models are yesterday's news. Any inventory left is sold off as fast as possible. Also in this time, the returns start to pollute the market, and in late January and February places like RefurbDepot have lots and lots of models that have been returned and repackaged, good as new, for resale to the highest bidder. Even this week, there are some TVs from last year that are selling at way below cost (you can tell they are from last year because as of this March, TV's all had to have ATSC HD tuners). I have watched this pattern for a few years now, and can say with data to back it up: January 31st is the best day to buy.
