productdose.com — They say there?s a ?sucker born every minute? but you're not a sucker if you intentionally know what you?re getting into. When I returned from my trip, I decided to research the differences between the watch I bought and a real Rolex. Below are some tips on how to distinguish a true Rolex from a forgery.

If you bought it from Bidz.com it's a fake. That site is notorius for higher end fake watches.

Last time I was in NYC I bought one on the street just for fun. 17 bucks. That was in 2000. Never wear it but it's still ticking.

I own many fake and real Rolexes of the same model, and this is simply not true. Both the real and fakes have watches that tick and those that dont. The ticking idea and flowing second hand are not a good way to tell a fake. Its a fun conversation point to bring out three watches- two fake, one real watch and asking my guests to determine the fakes. I think its funny how everyone thinks they are an expert when they look for the 'tick', and most often get it wrong.

Who cares - you look a wanker with a fake but you ARE a wanker if its real.

Yeah they have pictures of some of the newer replicas. Some of them are pretty scary. He talks about the Asian factories using CNC machines and laser measuring devices to cut near-perfect cases out of steel...

I'm not talking about the flowing second hand, a real rolex will have an audible tick.

That's supposed to say NOT have an audible tick
