Just like every British person who has already commented on this, I'd like to join then in saying that list is a load of crap. To "knock someone up" sounds more like you want to get them pregnant, "blow me" would just be considered rude, as in any country. "slap and tickle", although we can all guess its meaning is about 80 years old and you'll just look stupid using it. "Wanker" does get used a lot, as it's our equivalent of "jerk", i.e. "some one having a wank" is to "someone jerking off".We (us Brits) tend to use the same words/phrases as you Americans do (I think I'm right in saying that, someone correct me if not!) "Bloody hell" and "wanker/wank" are about the only real two that I think I use that aren't American.I blame the British film industry. Very few of us speak like Hugh Grant or Colin Firth - and if I ever hear another American try and mimic the fake c**kney accent of Dick Van Dyke (who is American anyway) I'm going to scream. No, **** is fairly tame. I can quite easily get away with using **** in everyday life (although it might mean ****, most people don't make the association). Wanker is generally considered a swearword, and so not so suitable at work.
I think you're right. Thanks. I just couldn't wrap my head around it at the time. My English friend says it, and it's hard for me to understand what she means, even with context. Taking the Mickey/taking the piss means making fun off, or teasing, apparently. I don't know why I have such a hard time with it, because the American equivalent is "giving somebody sh*t" --Why they're both tied to bathroom functions, I have no idea.
yeah, 'cos i understand what the terms mean - i just mean if i ever heard anyone say these things i would punch them in the brazils...."puff a butt", joisus, people get killed for less.
