storyevent.com— Many stores use an illegal practice that goes undetected. When you find a store that does, scheme hundreds off your next big purchase and totally stick it to the man.

"tax to 10% "wow that would be nice...tax here in ontario, canada is 14% in total.... used to be 15% (that includes both provincial [aka state] and federal taxes)
"You can also do this with scratched video games, rent it at blockbuster and swap out and then tell the store it came like that."Um, no you can't. Most places have a return policy that states they will NOT take back ANY open media, including CDs, DVDs, software, and video games, regardless of the reason. This prevents piracy. Once it's open, it's yours. Any issues must be dealt with the manufacturer.
I'll admit, when I first read this, I thought "that's a great idea, why didn't I think of that? But, the more I read everyone's comments the more I realized that it isn't that easy. "I'm gonna use a specific example, but it probably applies to other products. I'm looking at possibly getting a 32 inch LCD HDTV, which in-store are from $800-$1000+. Online they are from $500 on up. So this method would give 25-50% off? I don't think so. I do think it would be good to stick it to Circuit City and Best Buy, because of the stories I hear, such as the article that was dugg where a HDD replacement cost over $400 with no data recovery and someone that spent $15,000 for a router install in CA, not sure if this one was public because we came across this one from a customer where I work.
"Boo coos"? "Full proof"? How to rip-off the English language...Other than being 100% dishonest on both sides, this tactic has everything to do with the particular manager and their motivation (and/or greed) to get the sale. This is shady dealing by both parties and is an accessory to the murder of consumer confidence and any hope of improvement in customer service in America.Besides that, I know at Best Buy they have the exact item cost them and how much they're making or losing on an item on any given sale. They can search for the lowest price the item has been sold at in the past too. If you want to at least attempt being honest, versus, say, a dishonest dick, just ask that they check with their sales manager before you pay the displayed price.Heck, the Best Buy I worked at had pretty decent managers that didn't give you hell for not shoving service plans down the customer's throat and regularly matched internet prices, as long as they didn't lose money. Obviously they liked service plans and accessories (*uuuhh* Monster cables *shudder*) going out too, but strangely enough they often seemed to be more concerned with capturing a customer's loyalty (through their wallet) instead of picking their pocket on the way out.
SEARS - Sears is always pushing those 'Service Me' Plans, to the point that you end up in a 20 minute argument at the cash register trying to buy a TV.What a joke!Learn how to save your money, if its junk and you need a plan, don't buy junk.If it is a quality product, then why do you need a service plan?Illogical.
Office Depot gives a good price on the 'Demo' items - the ones actually sitting on the shelf.I got a Demo HP computer for $249 - it was the last one in stock, discontinued, and they needed the shelf space for the newer $1000+ systems. That little HP computer works like a champ - a few months of up-time 'burn-in' as a demo model proved it's worth!ALWAYS, Now my first question after meeting the sales person is 'Well, do you have any demos you need to clear out?' If not that day, then I ask when they will be selling the demos.People were making great deals before the Vista roll out, saving hundreds on XP machines that were ALL being pulled off the shelves.
This might work for big ticket items, and you must be with a manager to do this. I worked at circuit city and while they will cut you deals on the open box items, it's difficult for new. A regular employee, as stated in other comments, must go to a customer service rep or a manager to change the price on anything. It's really only TVs that I can see this working for since they're what pays the bills pretty much. Some good sales managers will cut a good customer who is making a big purchase a few deals, but it's never going to be an extreme 'save hundreds' deal. Just something to keep you going back.
If they do this for you buying an ipod I will die of shock. Any discount you ask for would be more than any profit they might make off it. Try it for TVs.
hey just for all you that read this i work at circuit city now and we just got told by coreprite office if we mark down any sony tv's slr's or any thing sony we will get fired on the spot it's something that sony is doing to all the stores I think.
Bottom line i currently sell TV's in a circuit city store and all the flex room u think we have is false. i have never moved on a TV even if you just buy a 5 year protection plan. honestly the people i see if they don't purchase firedog install of any kind a warranty and monster products its not worth my time. we have just started an incentive plan based on gross margins dollars. so if u want to come in and buy your 32" Vizio for 529.99 and 1 HDMI cable then your gonna have a longgg wait. the person who mentions open box now that's a start because every1 wins.....managers can work with the price you can find some good deals and it makes the most gross margin for me.... but honestly if u don't get a warranty with it your crazy!!!!!!!!!!! all in all though just wait for sales promo's and city deals because that's the best way to take advantage of our system..... oo ya, get ready for a full furniture line that's all commission for me so get those credit cards out or hell 3 years no interest... how can you go wrong!!!!????!!!!
Hi Guy's first Ive been reading this website and all the comments from people giving advice.First you guys have no idea what your talking about when you talk about gross margin on products. One of you wrote if you buy a 1000 dollar TV there is like 50 percent if a mark up so you can get the sales rep down $500 you guys have no idea what your talking about .I work for future shop so ill make this very clear .First if you buy from best-buy the deal you get wont even come close to the deal you will get at future shop and i can promise you this. Best buy = none commission witch mean's they don't care about the sale because they are not getting any commission from the sale. They have to put threw a few sales a day to keep the boss happy but if you say to a best buy person that future shop has a TV on for $1000 and best buy says ill sell you the TV for 950 and then you decide to go back to future shop and see if we will beat the price we will but if you then turn around and go to best buy they wont deal with you any more because your a pain in the ass customer and they dont get paid enough to deal with you and i dont blame them.Future shop = commission and that means the best deal will always be with us because we want a pay check at the end of the week. Gross margin on products changes from product to product has nothing to do with what we feel like discounting . We look at gross margin based on a point system if the product is to low we wont sell you it .If a Sales rep at future shop gives you a great deal with product service plan take it dont be a Jew.The min you tell me you dont want the plan i now no one you dont care about your product and now your slapping the sales rep in the face after giving you the best deal. Also most sales rep's will give you the best deal we dont play games some times we will drop cpl more dollars but if you keep pushing a sales rep hes gonna get tired of you and walk you and chances are no other person will beat a future shop deal. For all you people who say future shop warranty's are useless and fake i lol at you when your product breaks because i see so many returns on products a day and future shop pushing money out to fix or replace your item .Huge tip Future shop is not like Wallmart dont even put us in the same line up at wallmart or Sellers or other company's like this .We have learn ed to sell and we have learn ed to be are own managers and give the customer the very best deal we can. So many people think if they ask are manager for a better deal that the manager is going to crack and drop to be ass and spread um. No future shop counts on there staff to make the correction choices that's why were there. And I'm very glad that are bosses dont jump into are sales a sales rep will quit before that happens product experts dont like managers playing with are sales so managers leave us to make the right choices if we walk you we walk you.if your being walk 10 times out of 10 you were walked because you were blowing smoke up the sales persons ass or you were asking for a price no one would buy.Anyone shopping for a TV , pod , computer or anything else would be stupid to not shop at future shop. best buy is a great company its are sister but they will tell you we will work harder to give you a better deal. The best deal you will get from future shop is a 123 package deal. No sales rep wants a deal that go's on for two hrs .at this time customers and sales rep are bored .Trust future shop when we say the best deal is on the table .So guys dont believe what you hear about how much gross margin there is in products .On a 32 inch TV that's costs 700 to 1000 dollars your lucky to save 50$ . and frig gin phone will cost you 600$ ... that's not alot of money any more .And guys do your research dont come in asking a billion question's packy people are the worst read the f**kin Internet .Future shop is where you buy we will give you great service we will wine and dine you and teach you alot but if your kicking tires dont waste are time .no offence guys but you go to best buy to kick tires you come to future shop for the purchase cause that's where the deal is at .ask anyone beat are prices you wont .

Somehow this seems like you are lowering yourself below the scum level of the store managers trying to pressure you on the ESP's.
