The design flaws in this are really too many to mention, but here are just the ones that spring immediately to mind:(1) Fire in a cardboard box. And lots of it.(2) Oily paper towel as fire source. Oil fires are hard to put out.(3) No 'off' switch on fan. If the flames get out of control, you'll have to reach right over them and pull the wires to turn it off.(4) Fan right over fire. It overheats? No s**t, Sherlock. How about if the insulation melts and the wiring shorts out?(5) No safety instructions at all. "Do not use indoors", and "Keep fire extinguisher handy" would be minimum. "Do not build at all" would be advisible.
I don't see why you safety nuts are getting your panties in a wad. What possible harm can a little 1.5 foot flame do? It's not like you leave this on then go out shopping. Let's say the fire melts the fan, short circuits the battery, gets blown into and lights the box. That's a worse case scenario. What do you do? Step on it. Problem solved. It's not a masterful piece of engineering, but it's not like you're going to burn your house down.
