fizbang.com — "Logo "touch-up" is one of our most frequent requests. Our final work must be more effective, more visually appealing, and most importantly, recognizable as a revision of the old logo. How do we go about this? I wrote this guide both to offer potential business clients insight into our graphic design process and to help aspiring graphic designers." quote take from the site, i didnt write this :)

Wow, I was convinced this was going to be another "graphic designx0rz" article about how to make the latest lens flares, and it was actually sound advice. +1

"In fact, you shouldn't use any bitmap graphic software for logos ever."thats the exact reason you are not allowed to upload a bitmap when submitting a t-shirt to J!NX...they have a disclaimer

As long as photoshop filters are easy to use, people will make s**tty logos (read: s**tty everything).

With so many terrible logos out there, this article should be enforced. It's all true. The best logos are the ones without special effects.

"you'll know why you aren't going to want to proceed with that 3 color gradient with swoop and globe and spinning star you thought looked cool."Sooooo true.Just spoke with a potential client who said, and I quote, said "We want to use the spinny thing from this logo and could you make the type liquidy like this one? That would look so cool. OH! And my wedding colors are teal and purple so lets use those"Uh...no.Good read. Digg++

drraf - that's not why the Apple logo is with a bite. The apple logo has a bite as an homage to Alan Turing, the man who cracked the Enigma code machine for the Allies in WW2 among other things, and is regarded as a father of computer science. He was also a homosexual at a time when this was illegal and was persecuted for this, eventually resulting in him killing himself by taking a bite from an apple he had laced in cyanide. Or that's what I was told anyway...Back on topic, very informative article

This guy charges around 475 dollars to design a logo, along with stationary template, and business card template. Not a bad deal. He provides all the vector images, and everything he uses. He includes small, and large logos, along with logos to go on a contrasting background. I think he provides a good service, and I thought his article was very informative.

Why even start designing in a program that isn't going to allow you to output your solution in a useable format? Starting in photoshop is just going to cause headaches later when you're ultimately required to have a vector based mark. Just doesn't make sense.

It's interesting, but his theories don't mesh with his examples. 'First remove all bevels, drop shadows and and effects'. Now look at the apple logo progression. His rules are more about making his job easier than making good design.
