wikihow.com — "Absinthe is a formerly banned spirit drink that is made with Artemisia absinthium (wormwood) and other herbs. Also known as la f?e verte (the green fairy), absinthe was originally formulated during the 18th century by the French-born Dr. Pierre Ordinaire in Switzerland as a digestive tonic."

I'm from the U.S, I went to mexico and bought some Absinthe from there that was imported from czek to bring back in the states. I opened my luggage and it was still there. Tastes pretty bad but I'm saving the bulk of it for some grand celebration. 75% alc and cost me $75.00. Not sure if it's the "good" stuff or not though.Probably not since it was from Cancun.

sugar, water, fire - that's all you need to know ;) oh, and painkillers for the day after.

The "kits" you refer to are a joke, and will not result in making anything that even resembles "absinthe". Unless the kit includes an alambic, which they do not.

In the U.S. you can buy Lucid and Kubler Absinthe from K&L Wines in California -- they ship to some, but not all states -- www.klwines.com

sremick: you're not alone in thinking that, judging from this article on a place that serves absinthe the traditional way: http://barzine.com.au/absinthe-salon-surry-hills.h ... BTW, I just saw a South African absinthe in a store the other day -- has anyone here tried it?
