webdesignfromscratch.com — This is where I try to sum up the current state-of-the-art in graphic design for web pages, and identify the distinctive features that make a web page look fresh, appealing and easy to use. I'm glad to say that web design in 2006 is better than ever. The examples below (which I'll roll over time) show excellent modern graphic design technique.

@armbarHow about the "state-of-the-art in graphic design" comment - i mean honestly, it is nearly all meaningless cod s**t. Obvious comments that have applied to magazine/newspaper layouts for decades and websites for years.

I hate elitists. Not all web sites and publications are designed by people with innate talent, design degrees, and 25 years experience. Nobody suggests that you can create stunning design by reading a few pointers, but they might help you improve your skills. Why the animosity?

Mind if I mention that the article doesn't describe itself as "Web2.0 Design"? The first and only mention of 2.0 is in the links to other pages at the bottom of the page, and there it appears in quote marks! This article is about some core features of effective web design, which I've been writing about for years. Personally, I find the saminess of "2.0" as distasteful as the next man, although I'll be the first to celebrate the fact that it has helped promote the widespread adoption of stuff like white space, simplicity etc.

White space in web design is definitely a major factor. And using colors which are actually easy to read for text you want to people to focus on and/or click.Sarahhttp://www.designvitality.com/irvine-web-design-anaheim/

Hey thanks for the great advice, we are currently looking at re-designing our site and have found these basics a good foundation.

Wow. I subscribe to @Digg_2000 on Twitter, and thought this was a new thing. Sure took a lot of time to get to 2.000 diggs.Remember 2006? A simpler time, when fail, Pedobear and "It's a trap!" weren't memes on Digg? Good times.
