informit.com — OpenVPN may seem a little daunting at first, but once you get your feet wet this can be an incredibly useful (and free!) tool. In this article, Michael Riley shows you how to use OpenVPN for secure internet surfing on your client PCs.

Nice but I'm still waiting for Steve Gibson from GRC.com to get his guide online.

Hamachi w/ termserve owns both of those bloatwares. www.hamachi.ccOh yeah, and it works on PC, Mac and Linux.

knowing devs who created got2mypc, they use windows internals to streamline network performance, whereas VNC just copies over pixels. So logmein might use the VNC method which would require a broadband connection.

I just love these howto sites that make you hit next, next, next, next and load a new page every few paragraphs. It's annoying as hell. I didn't find the howto any more informative or easy to understand than the official openvpn site. Actually it was too distracting with all the huge ads all over the place.

I doubt that GoToMyPC uses ICA, although it might at some point. Citrix purchased the company behind the "GoTo" products a year or two ago, and renamed the company Citrix Online. While they may eventually get the ICA protocol in there at some point, I doubt it's there yet. The GoToMyPC product worked very well even before Citrix came along.I've also tried Hamachi (now owned by LogMeIn, Inc. BTW) and RDP and had similar performance issues. I also tried Hamachi using VNC with equal failure. I make the connection, but using the connection is downright painful. Again, as with LogMeIn I haven't had time to do a tremendous amount of research. It might be time to contact my ISP and see if they're mucking anything up.Anybody else have similar issues with Hamachi or LogMeIn and have suggestions to share?

Ok to only get remote desktop. But to secure all internet traffic on my computer when I am travelling, and to get remote access to my media library gotomypc/logmein is no good.
